A wonderful scenic drive but only if you have good tires. I hadn't been on this drive in 20 years & still just as beautiful. Take a picnic lunch & spend a couple of hours. Mother Nature at her finest. Enjoy all of the fly fisher people & rock climbers. Take it show & have your cameras ready. Admission is $9 per car.
We drove through this canyon and had a picnic here by the river. Very pretty drive. Not busy at all on a beautiful fall Saturday. Rest room facilities by the picnic area. Clean. About 3-4 picnic tables spread far apart and some benches by the river.
First things first, the fishing here is off the hook! ๐ฃ Eleven Mile Canyon is like a secret club for trout - they're practically lining up to get caught by eager anglers like us! It's like they've got a sign saying, "Free bait buffet - all you can eat!" ๐ฝ๏ธ
And let me tell you, these trout are real comedians! ๐คฃ They put on an Oscar-worthy performance when they see a lure coming their way. "Oh no, not that one again, Jerry! Act like you didn't see it!" ๐ They've got us laughing so hard we almost forgot about fishing - almost!
But jokes aside, the canyon itself is a hidden gem. The pristine waters, the lush greenery, and those breathtaking rock formations make it feel like Mother Nature is showing off her best works of art! ๐จ๐ฟ
The hiking trails are perfect for a little cardio between fishing bouts. We even made up fisherman jokes to keep the laughter flowing as we explored. "Why did the fish blush? Because it saw the ocean's bottom!" ๐
Oh, and the wildlife! ๐ฆ It's like a real-life zoo out there - only without the fences. We spotted deer doing a runway show and chipmunks staging their own Olympic Games! ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Beautiful drive! Plenty of places to stop and put your feet in the water. If you drive to the end, you will go through 3 tunnels. Tons of photo ops!!!
Eleven Mile Canyon is the most beautiful 9 miles you can drive. Year round. The South Platte river runs through it, fishing is good, lots of trails to hike, or just sit under a tree, close your eyes n relax . You hear water, birds, a breeze... I love going there. W A M H!!๐๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐ โฆ
What a beautiful park with so many activities! Just a short 55min to 1hr drive from Colorado Springs, me and the pups got to play in the beautiful canyon river, saw people enjoy tubing, fly fishing and hosting waterside picnics. We will definitely be back ๐คฉ โฆ
Absolutely beautiful place to go camping. We camped at the Backcountry Walk-in Loop and shewwwwwieeeee it is a LONGGG hike from your car to the actual campsite. Wish it was clarified more online that you have to hike up tons of stairs & rocky hills just to get to your campsite. PACK LIGHTLYYYYYYY if youโre going on the Backcountry Walk-in!!!!
Itโs very beautiful here. We love water, and enjoyed being right next to the river for the whole drive. Lots of climbing (Iโll have to come back for that), and some friendly humans were rafting down the river. The colors are incredible. The road was dirt gravel, and pretty bumpy at times. Our minivan was shaking a ton, so 4WD is preferable. Plenty of fishing, we saw a ton of that, although Iโm not a fisherman myself. It wasnโt as crowded as I thought, possibly because of the $8 cash fee to get in (you need cash). We, of course, donโt use cash because we donโt engage in nefarious activity, so we had to backtrack about a mile and a half to get to an ATM. Highly recommend. Next summer, we want to do some camping here.
